Mid-Century Modern Victorian

Updated: Feb 23, 2022

This family of 4 wanted to pay tribute to the beautiful Victorian details of their new home, as well as honor their eclectic mid-century taste. We balanced the darker wood details with bright fabrics and floral accents that will add warmth to the coldest New England days.

The sunroom incorporates lighter woods and an unexpected boucle and lucite modern chair. The custom sconce shades honor the great William Morris and offer a beautiful glow for playing games and doing puzzles on the large center table.

The adjacent dining space also brings in the outdoors with hand painted wallpaper, a luxurious wool rug (sustainably made by Armadillo and Co, a B corp) and the client's vintage chairs.

Here are the mood boards to see a little bit of where we started - all fabrics and wallpapers are presented with the design concepts to give the client a true feeling for pattern and texture:

This before photo really shows how much changing the sconce size and light direction made a huge difference. We also posted a progress reel here on instagram.

The living room also connected to the dining room. While we are still waiting for the proper sofa to arrive (#covid)... we were able to repurpose their vintage sofa with a Schumacher performance fabric, as well as retro inspired performance fabrics in the fireplace's englenooks.

Custom details add coziness to the upstairs primary bedroom with a reading nook cushion upholstered in Rebecca Atwood grass pattern (bringing in the natural elements from the fabrics and wallpaper downstairs). The drapery is textured with beads in a modern pattern and a vintage rug adorns the seating area. The clients are often working from home or caring for their children and wanted a peaceful, calm space to decompress in, as well as one that represented their playful style and affinity for unique spaces.

We are excited to continue working in the Boston area this year, as well as expand into Philadelphia, The Main Line and throughout the East Coast!
